January 29, 2010 Dear Parish Pro-Life Coordinator, Greetings and blessings! A heartfelt thank you for all of your efforts to make the 2010 Roe Memorial Events on January 16th the best ever! The prayers offered by 500 at the Roe Memorial Rosary / “Jericho Walk” around Routh Street abortion center helped four mothers turn away from abortion that day; an estimated 3,000 prayed the Roe Memorial Mass at the Cathedral with Bishops Farrell and Vann; and an estimated 6,000-7,000 participated in the largest ecumenical Dallas Rally & March for Life ever – carrying the most public witness signs ever! It was a great day for LIFE in downtown Dallas. Extra special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for providing so much of the needed volunteer help for each of the events. Be sure to visit www.prolifedallas.org to hear Bishop Farrell’s rousing rally speech and to read the words of his powerful homily. And be sure to mark your calendars now for the 2011 events on the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, January 22, 2011. The next Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting will be Saturday, February 13, 2010, from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon at St. Mary of Carmel Catholic Church, 2900 Vilbig Road, Dallas. This is a very important meeting, as it will be the last time we meet before the Bishop’s Dinner on April 10th. We want to be sure to give a “big Dallas welcome” to Texas’ first cardinal, Bishop’s Dinner keynote speaker Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and Chair of the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities! We’ll also hear the moving testimony that night of special guest Abby Johnson, former director of Planned Parenthood in Bryan. Please make every effort to attend this quarterly meeting or send a representative in your place. Edith Ramos, who is in charge of preparing the gift baskets for our annual Bishop’s Dinner Silent Auction, will need assistance from ParCoors. This will be a good time to bring your items to put into the baskets or an already-prepared basket. Important Note: In the interest of cost and efficiency, the Catholic Pro-Life Committee will no longer be sending this mailer by postal mail each month, except to the very few people who are not equipped to receive e-mail. The mailer will continue to go out electronically each month; the hard copy version will only go out quarterly to those who have requested it. Also, we have received a few questions regarding parish pro-life groups’ status as being “parish-based” or “non-parish-based” organizations. Please see the enclosed letter from Karen Garnett regarding this question. We will also discuss at the quarterly meeting on February 13th. Thank you for all you do for life. God Bless, Jim Walker Director of Parish Coordination 972-270-3019 or jwalker@prolifedallas.org |
