November 30, 2009 Dear Parish Pro-Life Coordinator, Greetings and blessings! What a beautiful, spirit-filled service we had on November 7 at the closing of the Fairmount abortion center; well over one hundred people were in attendance. Msgr. Mark Seitz and Karen Garnett did a great job of leading us in prayer and song. The trumpet playing of “Silver Taps” at the end of the service brought tears to the eyes of many. Even though the killing of the unborn has, sadly, moved to another location, we thank the Lord there will not be another baby killed at this horrible place – “the ground zero of abortion in Texas” – which has seen the destruction of hundreds of thousands of children since it opened over 36 years ago. With the opening of the Southwestern late-term abortion facility at the NE corner of Greenville Avenue and Royal Lane, we have made the decision “not to wait” until the spring for “intensive prayer” at the site. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Unborn, falls on Saturday, December 12, so we will have a Pro-Life Mass and Rosary Procession from Christ the King Parish to Southwestern. This will also mark the beginning of the modified “40 Days for Life-Dallas Winter Vigil,” 4 hours per day, from 8 a.m.-12 noon, 7 days a week, from December 12-January 22, the same dates as the first 40 Days-Dallas vigil outside of Aaron’s in 2004-05. Aaron’s closed last summer, and the building was leveled to the ground a few months later. So far, 18 days of the Winter Vigil have been adopted. If you haven’t had a chance to adopt a 4-hour day yet, please email 40days@prolifedallas.org as soon as possible. To see the listing of adopted days so far, please click here. We are praying that there are at least two people per hour (8 per day) who will be able to come out and pray against this grave evil during each day of the vigil. Also, as the year draws to a close, we need your help to promote the upcoming annual Roe Memorial events in January. The 2010 events will take place on Saturday, January 16. Following the Roe Memorial Rosary at the new location of Routh Street abortion center will be the Roe Memorial Mass, concelebrated by Bishops Kevin Farrell and Kevin Vann at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral, followed by the ecumenical Dallas March for Life to the federal courthouse where the Roe case was first filed in 1970. Curtis Stephan of St. Ann Parish in Coppell will be leading the music at the Roe Memorial Mass. He is phenomenal! Bishop Farrell would particularly like to see many young people there - from parish youth groups, Catholic high schools, Scout troops, etc. Please widely circulate the Roe Memorial events flyers in your parish. Last year more than 5,000 people marched for life; if we answer Bishop Farrell’s challenge to “double it” this year, we will have 10,000. That would be an awesome statement that the city of Dallas cannot ignore! Finally, the Winter Baby Bank Campaign began November 14/15. If you did not yet place your order, please call or email me as soon as possible. Thank you for all you do for life. May you have a Blessed Advent! God Bless,
Jim Walker |
