October 30, 2009 Dear Parish Pro-Life Coordinator, Greetings and the Lord’s blessings to you. In case you did not receive the CPLC e-alert earlier this week, I am sorry to have to share with you the grim news that Dallas is the home of a late-term abortion facility once again. Fairmount purchased Aaron’s when Aaron’s closed in August 2008, which brought the number of abortuaries in our city down to five. This week, Fairmount moved out of 2921 Fairmount – the first abortuary in the state of Texas, killing children since 1973 – and relocated into a new “ambulatory surgical center” with the new name of Southwestern Women’s Surgery Center, at the NE corner of Royal Ln and Greenville Ave. They are equipped to kill children up to 24 weeks’ gestation, and sidewalk counseling access is extremely limited. While we grieve this grave evil of late-term abortion returning to our community, we remain at “five wounds on our city” needing focused prayer and sidewalk counseling coverage instead of this new facility being an expansion back to six. We will continue to pray and work until the day that there are no abortuaries and no abortions in Dallas. The 40 Days for Life Vigil is drawing to a close, and it has been awesome. More than 2,000 people of faith have come out to pray outside Robinson’s abortuary during these 40 days, including hundreds of youth. We know of eight mothers who turned away from Robinson’s during the vigil, most going with our sidewalk counselors across the street to the recently-opened Birth Choice on Record Crossing. We will mark the close of 40 Days-Dallas next Saturday, November 7, first with a Closing Memorial Prayer Service outside 2921 Fairmount, from 4:30-5:30 p.m., in memory of the thousands of babies who died there during the last 36 years, followed by the 40 Days potluck dinner at St. Monica Parish, beginning at 6 p.m. Monsignor Mark Seitz will lead our prayer service at Fairmount. We hope you can join us. I want to thank you for contacting your pastor and requesting that a pro-life homily be preached on Respect Life Sunday. I have had many good reports from parish coordinators about homilies given by their priests and deacons. We owe a great debt of gratitude to our Bishop for his urging the pastors to observe Respect Life Month in significant and inspiring ways. The Bishops are also asking for mobilization on the health care reform action alerts. Click here to read Bishop Farrell's urgent message. Please be sure to assist your pastor in any way he needs with distribution of material. Our next Quarterly Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting is from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Rd, Richardson. If you cannot make it, please send a parish representative. Thank you for all you do for life. God Bless,
Jim Walker |
