Dear Parish Pro-Life Coordinator,

Greetings and blessings!  Respect Life Month is upon us, and there are a multitude of events in the Dallas Diocese to celebrate Life!  If you haven't taken your parish's USCCB Respect Life Program packet to your pastor yet, please do so as soon as possible so he will have time to prepare his pro-life homilies and display the beautiful poster this month.  There are five weekends in October, so if he didn't have a chance to give a Respect Life homily on Respect Life Sunday there are still four more opportunities. 

The 40 Days for Life-Dallas campaign began on September 21st with an inspirational Kickoff Rally at which Founder and National Director of 40 Days for Life David Bereit challenged us to commit more to defending life than we ever have before.  We have answered that call with all of the 40 Days being adopted by parishes and pro-life organizations before the vigil even started - in large part thanks to all of you!!  There are, however, still some hours to be filled each day during this 24-hour prayer vigil outside the Southwestern late-term abortion center, particularly at night.  So if you or any of your fellow parishioners feel called to stand witness on behalf of the unborn, sign up here, or email 40days@prolifedallas.org if your your parish would like to share an adopted day with another church. Or just show up and sign in anytime day or night through October 31st to be a part of this amazing campaign!!  (See Map and Directions here)

You also won't want to miss the Respect Life Month Quarterly Mass on Saturday, October 9th, celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Doug Deshotel at 8 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dallas, followed by Eucharistic Adoration and a Rosary Procession by bus to the Southwestern late-term abortion center, led by Fr. Josef Vollmer-König.  We are so blessed to have our bishops and priests standing with us to pray for an end to abortion in our city!  On that same day, 40 Days for Life-Dallas will have its first-ever Youth Day at Southwestern and a Midway Rally at noon at Harry S. Moss Park (across from Southwestern), featuring Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics, Carmen Pate, former President of Concerned Women for America and Host of "Point of View," and Father Douglas Zavala of Immaculate Conception Parish in Grand Prairie. 

On Wednesday, October 27, near the close of 40 Days for Life-Dallas and as election day approaches, the Catholic Pro-Life Committee will host a screening of the film "BloodMoney: The Business of Abortion."  This is a riveting film narrated by Dr. Alveda King and featuring Carol Everett, Father Frank Pavone, Joseph Scheidler, and Norma McCorvey, among others.  The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Carol Everett and other members of local pro-life ministries. Tickets are just $5 each and must be purchased in advance at www.prolifedallas.org/bloodmoney or 972-267-LIFE (5433).  Seating is limited, so buy your tickets soon!

• October 4: Last day to register to vote.  Be sure to check out the Bishops Farrell and Vann's teaching statement on proper formation of conscience with regard to voting in their Joint Statement on Faithful Citizenship issued in October 2008.
• October 5: NCPD (National Catholic Partnership on Disability) Webinar on Prenatal Diagnosis
• October 10-11: Respect Life Series with Father Tadeusz Pacholczyk, Ph.D. at Good Shepherd in Colleyville
• October 10-11: Youth For Life's Sidewalk Counseling All-night Training (SCAT) in Plano
• October 14: Responsible Voting Seminar (in English and Spanish) at St. Philip the Apostle in Dallas
• October 23: Spanish Ministry One-Day Conference: Humano y Vida: Inseparables! at Immaculate Conception in Grand Prairie
• October 30: Prayer Partner and Sidewalk Counseling Training (in English and Spanish) at St. Luke in Irving
• November 2: 10th Annual CPLC Classic/Bishop's Cup Golf Tournament at Canyon Creek Country Club
• November 2: Election Day: Vote for Life!!
  

Last, but certainly not least, our next Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting will be on Saturday, November 13, at St. Pius X Parish, Dallas.  I hope to see you all there!
