Fortnight for Freedom Begins Today!

The U.S. Bishops have called for a 2nd annual Fortnight for Freedom, a two-week period of prayer and action, to address many current challenges to religious liberty, including the August 1, 2013 deadline for religious organizations to comply with the HHS mandate, Supreme Court rulings that could attempt to redefine marriage in June, and religious liberty concerns in areas such as immigration and humanitarian services.
A Special Diocesan Fortnight Event is being held on Saturday, June 29 at St. Patrick in Dallas, beginning with the 5 p.m. Vigil Mass with a special “Fortnight homily” by Fr. Josef Vollmer-König, followed by a one-hour dinner program in the auditorium, featuring Tom Brandt of the St. Thomas More Society, and closing with the “Litany for Liberty”.  The program is free; suggested dinner donation is $3/person.  Click here for event flyer.
Fortnight for Freedom Reflection Day 1: The “human person has a right to religious freedom.” This right is founded upon the intrinsic dignity of the human person. From God’s revelation we know that the dignity of human beings resides in their being created in the image and likeness of God (Gn 1:27). Read entire reflection.

Action Item and Requests

Action Alert:  Urge Your TX State Representative to Support Critical Pro-Life Legislation Today!
Texas Catholic Conference Earlier this week, the Texas Senate passed important pro-life legislation (Senate Bill 5).  A similar bill is being heard in the Texas House, which increases safety standards at abortion facilities in Texas, requires RU-486 abortions to be done according to FDA safety standards, and requires abortionists to be qualified to treat life-threatening complications after botched abortions.
This legislation is vitally important to protecting both unborn children and women in Texas. The bill must quickly pass the full Texas House before the end of the special session next week.
**Please contact your State Representative today and encourage him or her to support and pass this essential pro-life legislation.**  (Sample messages available here).  Don't know who represents you?  Find your TX state representative here

Also of Interest: U.S. Congress passes nationwide 20-week ban on abortion

*Please Note:  The CPLC is devoted to the end of all abortions without exception.  While the federal and state legislation described above are not complete abortion bans, they represent incremental steps on a national and state level to reduce the instances of abortion and increase the protection of women.  We therefore join the U.S. and Texas Bishops in support of these measures.  See Evangelium Vitae 73.

A Gift of Prayer:  Spiritual Bouquet for Bishop Mark
Bishop Mark Seitz The CPLC is gathering a spiritual bouquet from the Dallas pro-life community for Bishop Mark Seitz as he begins his new ministry as the shepherd of the Diocese of El Paso on July 9.  We invite you to send any spiritual offerings you would like to have included in this collective bouquet.  A spiritual bouquet is simply a prayer or devotional that one person says for another, usually for a specific purpose.  Prayers offered for the other may be Masses, Holy Communions, Rosaries, Divine Mercy Chaplets, Holy Hours, fasting or abstinence, or other worthy acts of charity.  Please email your spiritual offering(s) for Bishop Mark to by noon on Friday, June 28.  Thank you!
Bus to El Paso:  A bus is being organized from the Diocese of Dallas for those who would like to attend the July 9 Mass of Installation for Bishop Seitz and reception following.  The bus leaves Dallas Monday morning, July 8, arriving in time for evening vespers and returns on Wednesday, July 10.  If you are interested, please contact Deacon Doug Breckenridge at Space is limited.

Help Needed:  Support Boot Camp & Pro-Life Speakers
How can you help? To make an abortion-free future a reality, we urgently need your assistance.  Each year the CPLC, along with the Respect Life Ministry of the Diocese of Fort Worth, hosts Pro-Life Boot Camp for high school youth.  While the students pay fees to attend, we keep these fees as reasonable as we can for families; as such, camp expenses are not fully covered.  You can help support this incredible life-changing experience by any of the following:
  1. Donate any amount to help fill the cost gap of Boot Camp ($100 per camper)
  2. to transport speakers for Boot Camp and other educational events this summer
  3. Donate material items to help reduce the cost of Boot Camp
  4. Underwrite specific camp costs such as speakers, religious items and scholarships
  5. Volunteer your time to assist at Boot Camp. (Volunteers working with youth must be Safe-Environment cleared.)
Click here to make a financial donation.  If you’d like to donate material items or or volunteer for Boot Camp, contact Jacquelyn Smith at or 214-457-5128. Thank you for all you do for life!

The CPLC depends on friends like you to partner with us to save lives. Please consider making a donation to support our work. Thank you and God bless you!

All together, let us build a culture of life!

Please pass this on to your friends and family!
