Congress to Probe Denial of Catholic Grant over Abortion by Steven Ertelt, LifeNews
A House committee will hold a hearing next week on the decision by the [U.S. government] to deny to the nation’s Catholic bishops a grant for a program helping sex trafficking victims because it would not refer for abortions. . . . The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops had previously received a five-year $19 million grant to help victims of sex trafficking . . . .
Sensitive to how women are exploited in the sex industry, the Catholic bishops prohibit any subcontractors from using the funds to pay for or promote abortions. Planned Parenthood, which makes its living aborting future generations of families, is expecting again. When it comes to Planned Parenthood in Texas, the favorite child is the Houston abortion facility that opened last year, offering a full range of services including late-term abortions. But in the works is a multi-million dollar abortion center in another part of the state, as Planned Parenthood of North Texas (PPNT) is in the midst of a capital campaign to replace its Fort Worth facility with a sprawling new center to expand its services. Pope Benedict XVI encouraged countries around the world to end the death penalty as a legal sanction at his Nov. 30 general audience.
Addressing a group of pilgrims gathered in Rome for an international conference on the controversial topic, the Pope said he hopes that their deliberations “will encourage the political and legislative initiatives being promoted in a growing number of countries to eliminate the death penalty.” Continue reading.
