Dear Brother Knight,

Last year’s Order of the Hours program was a huge success!  During the 2011 40 Days for Life-Dallas campaign, the Dallas Diocese Knights of Columbus helped keep the vigil night hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. filled.  This incredible assistance made it possible to maintain the round-the-clock vigil covering the Southwestern late-term abortion center in prayer for 40 days.  Over 6,200 people participated in Dallas, making it the world’s largest 40 Days for Life vigil ever.  And God heard our continuous and fervent prayers!  23 babies were saved from abortion at Southwestern (that we know of), plus 92 more lives were saved at the other four wounds on our community during the campaign.

To honor their commitment to life, the Life Guardians, Knight Owls and Admirals of the Ark from the 2011 campaign will be recognized at the 40 Days for Life-Dallas Kickoff Rally next Tuesday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. in Harry S. Moss Park (SE corner of Royal Lane and Greenville Avenue).  There will be a Color Guard at the Rally, and Dallas Diocesan Deputy Roger Scott will hand out the certificates of recognition to members of Councils 11862, 7017, 830, 7850, 8954 and 12300.  Come honor your brothers and take the opportunity to sign up, because as a Knight, you’ll want to be involved.  Here’s how.

40 Days for Life-Dallas Needs You Again this Year!

There are three levels of the Order of the Hours:

  • Admiral of the Ark:  Knights who maintain vigil for an entire 24-hour period.  A team of at least 2 Knights required, ideally 4, in order to keep each other alert and safe.

  • Knight Owl:  Knights who maintain at least one 4-hour vigil during the night hours between 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

  • Life Guardian:  Knights who accept the “standby” position, ready to come and stand vigil on short notice, once during a select week or weekend of the 40-day campaign (like the preceding designations, this will likely involve nighttime hours)

There are five (count ‘em, 5) different ways to sign up to be a Knight Owl this year.

  1. If your parish has adopted a day, contact your Parish Pro-Life Coordinator to help fill the nighttime hours.  (Don’t know who that is?  Check your bulletin for an announcement or call 972-267-LIFE (5433).)

  2. If your parish has adopted only daytime hours (between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.), ask your Grand Knight if your Council can adopt a night shift.  Check out the open nights here. (We especially need help on the nights of October 1, 2, 3 & 4).  Once you have selected a night to adopt, contact or 972-267-LIFE (5433).

  3. Come to the Kickoff Rally on September 25 and sign up at the Knights’ Table.

  4. Click here to register and sign up for at least four (4) hours of a night shift (between 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.) on the online vigil calendar.

  5. Let us know that you want to be added to the "standby" team to cover nighttime hours as needed.  Send your contact information to .

Just pick the one that works best for you.  It’s that easy!

As Jesus said, “It is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones should perish.”  Join your Brother Knights in defense of the defenseless, protection of the innocent and service to the Culture of Life!

Your Brother in Christ,
