On April 6, 2013, author and life advocate Dr. Alveda King will keynote the 20th Annual Pro-Life Dinner hosted by Dallas Bishop Kevin J. Farrell and benefiting the Catholic Pro-Life Committee, the Respect Life Ministry of the Diocese of Dallas.

Dr. Alveda King is no stranger to fighting for those marginalized in our society.  The daughter of the late civil rights activist Rev. A. D. King and his wife Naomi Barber King, Alveda grew up in the civil rights movement led by her uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Her family home in Birmingham, Alabama, was bombed, as was her father’s church office in Louisville, Kentucky.  Alveda was jailed during the open housing movement.  She sees the  movement to protect the unborn as a continuation of the civil rights struggle.

Inspired by the heroism of her family and having experienced the tragedy of two abortions herself, Alveda is devoted to restoring the right to life, promoting healing for post-abortive women and men, and fighting the devastating effects of abortion in the African-American community.  She is the founder of King for America, a leader with the National Black Prolife Coalition, and serves as the Director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries.  She has shared her message worldwide, including media appearances on CNN, FOX News, MSNBC and other global media outlets.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Alveda King – a national champion and courageous voice in the pro-life movement – to share our special anniversary, celebrating 20 years of saving lives in the Diocese of Dallas," said Karen Garnett, Executive Director of the Catholic Pro-Life Committee.  "We are also welcoming David Bereit, National Director of 40 Days of Life, who will share a few words about the integral role the Dallas pro-life community played in the now-international prayer campaign he leads," added Karen.  The Master of Ceremonies of the program will be Bill Orender, Catholic Pro-Life Committee Board Member and local business executive.

This event is open to the public, and tickets are on sale now.  Details are as follows:
