July 1, 2013

Dear Parish Pro-Life Coordinator,

Greetings and blessings to you.  I was so glad to see such a wonderful turnout at the Annual CPLC Staff and Volunteer Appreciation Picnic!  Special congratulations to St. Ann which raised the most funds in support of the 2013-14 Baby Bank Campaign, and thank you to all the parishes who helped raise funds to support the cause of life at your parishes and through the CPLC’s nine life-saving ministries.

I hope you are enjoying the warmer months with your family and friends.  In the midst of summer fun, there are plenty of opportunities to support life and liberty!  The Fortnight for Freedom, which began on June 21, will continue through July 4.  The CPLC helped plan and promote a wonderful diocesan event at St. Patrick this past Saturday with nearly 150 in attendance.  Several parishes are also hosting additional events throughout the two-week period.  Parish resources and event listings are available at dallascatholicadvocacy.orgIf your parish is planning an event that is not posted, .

As we have all been following, the first Special Session called by Governor Perry to consider, among other items, abortion regulation came to a disappointing end when hundreds of abortion advocates descended on the capitol last Tuesday and prevented the democratic process from moving forward in a timely manner, blocking the passage of an omnibus pro-life billFortunately, Governor Perry has called a second Special Session to renew pro-life legislative efforts.  Catholic leadership in Austin – led by the Texas Catholic Conference – is organizing efforts to ensure that the pro-life voice is heard throughout this 30-day session (see flyer here).  We will keep you posted on all such efforts, and strongly encourage you to lend your critical support through prayer, calls, emails and visits to Austin, and help spread the word to your fellow parishioners!

Later this month, we are excited to promote the screening of the powerful documentary The Three Deadliest Words in the World: it’s a girl on July 25 at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas.  This film tells the stories of abandoned and trafficked girls, of women who suffer extreme dowry-related violence, of brave mothers fighting to save their daughters’ lives, and of other mothers who would kill for a son.  A Q & A featuring international activist and president of Women’s Rights without Frontiers Reggie Littlejohn will follow.  Reserve your tickets here by July 18.  Seating is limited.

Also this summer is the special opportunity for all Parish Pro-Life Coordinators to receive a special blessing and commissioning at the Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Mass, celebrated on August 10 at 8 a.m. at St. Patrick in Dallas.  The Quarterly Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting will follow in the auditorium from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  I hope to see you all there!

In addition to these events, please be sure to mark your calendars for:

With so much going on, it often seems that there are not enough hours in the day.  I am constantly doing something, but at the end of the day I often realize that I did not get to all that I needed to accomplish.  I am certain that you, too, have had this same experience.  Whenever I have such days, I make the commitment of slowing down, taking a deep breath and thanking God for the many things that He has allowed me to do.  I recently read a comment that we should “pray without ceasing.”  It reminded me that when I have God in my thoughts is when I seem to be more effective, because it is then that He works through me.  How wonderful it is when we fill our hearts and our minds with Our Lord!  I wish for us all days filled with Him as we labor to protect His gift of life.

May God’s blessings be upon you and your family, as you help to strengthen our commitment to the sanctity of life.

Thanks for all you do for Life,

David Carr
Director of Parish Coordination
