Greetings and blessings! Effective July 1, 2012, I assumed the role of CPLC Director of Parish Coordination, one of the nine ministries of the Catholic Pro-Life Committee. My friend Jim Walker served in this role for the past 12 years. Most of you know Jim and what a wonderful job he did. I feel truly blessed to be following in his footsteps.
I am bilingual and excited to help both the English and Spanish-speaking Parish Pro-Life Coordinators. And first on my agenda is to meet and greet each of you at the upcomingQuarterly Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting with a special Mass, Blessing & Commissioning on August 18th at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek, Dallas. The Mass begins at 9 a.m. and will include a special blessing of all Parish Pro-Life Coordinators by celebrant and pastor Bishop Mark Seitz, followed by the quarterly meeting at 10:00 in the Fellowship Hall, where we'll also take a few moments to honor Jim for his service in the Parish Coordination ministry. You won’t want to miss this memorable event!
Before then, here are a few fun facts about me: My wife and I are natives of Laredo, Texas. We were childhood sweethearts. Marianela (Nelly) and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary in June. We have three daughters, two sons-in-law and six grandchildren. I have enjoyed serving in the Knights of Columbus for 25 years. As a Knight, I am familiar with many pro-life activities, such as Hike for Life and 40 Days for Life – both of which are around the corner!
40 Days for Life-Dallas Campaign Director Joanne Underwood has already been in touch with you about the upcoming Fall campaign in Dallas that begins on September 26 and continues through November 4. Thanks in large part to your efforts last year, the Dallas vigil was 6,200 strong – the largest in the world! The 2012 vigil is once again at the Southwestern late-term abortion center, and we need your help to cover it in prayer! Please contact Vigil Coordinator Susan Platt at or 214-392-7545 to let her know which vigil day(s) your parish is adopting. More information about the campaign is available at prolifedallas.org/40days. The calendar is already filling so be sure to get your requested date(s) in soon!
Also coming soon is the second Render Unto Caesar Civic Action Conference on September 8, training and activating faithful citizens to be involved in the public square during this important election year. Registration is now open for this great conference featuring experts from around the state, including Bishop Mark Seitz, Jeffery Patterson of Texas Catholic Conference, Dr. Joe Pojman of Texas Alliance for Life and our own Karen Garnett. Please spread the word about this not-to-be-missed event. More information and registration is available at prolifedallas.org/conference.
Finally, do you know anyone who would like to work in pro-life ministry? The CPLC is looking for a half-time Development Assistant. Click here for more information. Birth Choice Counseling for Women also has an opening for a full-time Client Services Director. Click here for more information.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Mass with Special Blessing and th quarterly meeting on the 18th, where I will be distributing the Respect Life Program packets ordered for each of your parishes. If you cannot attend, please be sure to send a representative.
Thanks for all you do for Life and God bless,
