Dear Friend of Life,

Below is an update regarding the advancement of monumental pro-life legislation during the Second Special Session of the Texas Legislature.

Update from the Texas Catholic Conference:

At midnight on July 2, the House State Affairs Committee voted out House Bill 2 – the Pro-life Omnibus Billto be considered by the full House of Representatives as early as Tuesday, July 9, 2013.  The celebration was shared by the thousands of pro-life supporters who came to the Capitol Monday and Tuesday to have their voices heard.

For the hearing Tuesday, we had an amazing 2,400 pro-lifers show up to testify, twice the 1,200 that showed up Monday to counter-protest Planned Parenthood and NARAL.  The Capitol was awash in a sea of pro-life blue and the switchboards and inboxes were flooded with your calls and email messages.

Monday, July 8:
1) The Senate Health and Human Services Committee will hold a public hearing on Senate Bill 1 (identical to omnibus pro-life bill HB 2) at 10 a.m. in Room E1.036. Registration (paper only) to indicate support for SB 1 or to testify opens at 9 a.m.  You may also register to request to give oral testimony limited to 2 minutesand/or submit written testimony (must bring 20 copies).  Doors to the Capitol will open at 7 a.m., and the lines will be long.  There will be ample overflow rooms set up in the Capitol to sit and watch the hearing comfortably.

2) Pro-Life Rally on the South Steps of the Capitol at 7 p.m. Monday night, sponsored by Concerned Women for America and featuring national speakers including Mike Huckabee, Penny Nance and Michelle Duggar.

Tuesday, July 9:
Prayer Gathering sponsored by the Texas Catholic Conference on the South Steps of the Capitol at 9 a.m. with Senator Eddie Lucio and Representative Bill Callegari before the House and Senate convene, followed by procession to the House gallery to pray and support as the House takes up floor debate and possibly votes on House Bill 2.  We do not know the timing of the House vote, Senate floor debate, or Senate vote, but will update as soon as we learn.

We need a lot of Pro-Life Blue on both Monday and Tuesday!!

Note:  As these are long days at the Capitol, we encourage you to bring a light backpack with water bottles and snacks (and don't forget your cell phone chargers).  Also, as we have witnessed the last few days, the spiritual warfare over this bill is very intense.  Some of the abortion supporters have shouted vulgarities, we have seen posters with obscene language, and there have even been some pagan rituals performed in the Capitol (yes, sadly, I am serious).  Parents, please be aware that your children may be exposed to this ugliness if you bring them.

**Please email us at to let us know if you are interested in riding a bus to Austin from Dallas:
