Happy New Year! I hope you and your family are enjoying a blessed Christmas season!
As we celebrate the Christ Child born anew in our hearts and look forward to 2013, we are prone to make resolutions to improve our lives and the lives of others. It is a perfect time to look back at 2012 and think about what we would like the future to hold. Once again, we are anticipating over 800 lives saved from abortion outside the five abortion centers in Dallas in 2012. Praise God! This year, let us re-commit ourselves to saving lives and being instruments for the conversion of hearts. Let us be an example of God’s love to all those around us.
We have one such opportunity on Saturday, January 19, when Dallas will mark the 40th memorial anniversary of Roe v. Wade– the tragic U.S. Supreme Court case that made abortion available on demand and ushered in the death of over 53 million unborn children. This year’s theme is Exodus 20:13 “Thou Shalt Not Kill”, and in the words of Bishop Farrell, is a “most fitting reminder from Almighty God in the year 2013, the 40th year of the legalized killing of the unborn, that life is sacred and must be protected and that the killing must end.”
Our Bishop is once again urging all Catholics from across the diocese to participate in the Roe Memorial Events on January 19, 2013, including the Rosary outside the Routh Street abortion center, the bilingual Mass at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, which he will celebrate along with clergy from the Dioceses of Dallas and Fort Worth, and the ecumenical Dallas March for Life to the Rally outside the federal courthouse housing the district court where Roe was first filed. Please help spread the word about these monumental events (complete schedule available here).
Your pastor should have received a letter from Bishop Farrell about these events the first week of December, and the various promotional materials to display and distribute in the parish, including:
posters and yard signs to be delivered to the parishes.
If you do not see an announcement in your bulletin in the coming week, please check in with your parish office to make arrangements for it to run as soon as possible. The last possible weekend for the announcements to run in bulletins and from pulpits before the events on January 19 is next weekend, January 12-13. We are in the process of delivering the posters and yard signs and could use your help! If you can pick up the posters and/or yard signs for your parish at the CPLC office, please let us know at 972-267-LIFE (5433) or .
