Theology of the Body for Teens High School Training Session

Saturday, June 30, 2012 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Location(s): San Jose Catholic Church, 2435 Oak Crest Ave, Austin, TX 78704

What is Theology of the Body for Teens?

Theology of the Body for Teens is a dynamic faith formation program for teens in Catholic schools, parish youth ministries, Religious Education, Confirmation, and homeschool settings.  Using a great mix of stories, real-life examples, activities, prayers, and relevant references to the culture, it goes beyond traditional chastity programs by connecting the two hottest topics on the planet--God and sex.

With Blessed Pope John Paul II's compelling vision for love and life, and a language they understand, Theology of the Body for Teens answers the questions teens have about their own bodies, issues on sexual morality, and how they are uniquely created for greatness.

The High School Edition has been granted the Imprimatur by Justin Cardinal Rigali, of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Theology of the Body for Teens answers questions such as:

  • Why did God give us our sexual desires?
  • What is purpose and scope of the Theology of the Body?
  • What is the difference between love and lust?
  • What does our sexuality teach us about God?
  • What if I’ve already “messed up”?
  • How can I discover my vocation?
  • How far is “too far”?
  • How can teens remain pure in our oversexed culture?
...and many more.

Who Should Attend:

Principals, Teachers, Priests, DREs, Catechists, Deacons, Youth Ministers, Campus Ministers, Parents and anyone who works with teens (9th-12th grade).

Morning Invocation

Rev. Cesar Charlie Garza
Associate Pastor of Santa Cruz
Diocese of Austin

Fr. Charlie attended Texas A&M University after graduating from Plano Senior High School where his family lived prior to moving to Central Texas. He was in third or fourth grade when a priest during a homily asked what God was calling the congregation to do with their lives. “That’s what planted the seed,” he said. “And it got watered over time.” While his parents didn’t openly encourage him to the priesthood, they provided a faithful environment, attending Mass regularly and praying the rosary weekly as a family. During a retreat at Texas A&M, he attended adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and felt the call rather strongly. “I said a silent prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament and then walked outside at night to be in nature with God,” he said. Garza said the culture at A&M, including priests such as Fathers Keith Kohl, David Konderla and Mike Sis, help foster vocations. His pastor from Plano, Msgr. Michael Duffy, was also a good role model, he said. Immediately upon graduation from Texas A&M, he entered St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston. Garza said that young people considering a vocation need to grow in their relationship with God. “The closer we walk with him, the easier it is to hear God’s voice and know what we are being called to do,” he said. “Society is noisy. That’s why it’s hard to hear when we’re being called.”
